Berg Cottage fulfills a need for those who enjoy outdoor pursuits, but like some comfort at the end the day. It is about 500m from the village centre where there are numerous fine restaurants offering a wide range of menus. The shops are wonderful for browsing and they are mostly built around the square.
This charming sandstone dwelling was built from blocks hewn from the mountain by a "bywoner" in 1929 in order to qualify for the the hand of the farmer's daughter. It retains the character and simplicity of that era while incorporating the comforts of today.
Berg cottage is a great base to explore Lesotho. From Clarens, Katse dam is only 4hrs away. Sleeps up to 6 people with two rooms which have queen beds and a third which has two single beds.
The cottage is eminently suitable for family get togethers for all ages. It borders the Clarens Conservancy where there are numerous marked trails, both for cycling and hiking.
Penni and Zane are your hosts who are both passionate about the outdoors and hiking and can answer any questions you have about the area.
Clarens is home to numerous restaurants, art galleries, shops as well as the Village Conservancy. There are maps for sale in town showing the different hiking and cycling routes. Conservation is not free and we ask that you pay the levy if you are going to use the Conservancy at all. Details are on the boards leading onto the hiking trail.
