We are Fredric Switser and Anke Herrijgers, proud owners of Chestnut Country Lodge. In 2021, we purchased this beautiful property and began an intensive but heartfelt renovation process. Step by step, we transformed the lodge into a tastefully decorated retreat with a modern African touch. We immediately fell in love with everything that makes Chestnut so special. The lodge is truly unique, with breathtaking views over the valley and surrounding mountains. The tranquility of the surroundings, the lush nature, and the rich birdlife make this a place you will never forget. Every morning, we offer a generous buffet and hot breakfast. For those who depart early for safari, we are happy to provide a fully packed breakfast box to start your day in the Kruger National Park. In the evenings, we serve a set menu featuring one carefully chosen, traditional South African dish, such as bobotie for the main course or milktart for dessert. Our chefs prepare everything with love, using local ingredients and great attention to quality. In addition, we host a Friday Braai Day each week. To make the experience complete, we invite local dancers whose performances bring extra atmosphere and culture — an evening that our guests often consider the highlight of their stay. We are also particularly proud of our management team. Beukes is an exceptionally knowledgeable guide who shares his passion for nature, wildlife, and the ecosystem. His own safari vehicle is ready at the lodge for our guests. Our location is perfect for exploring Kruger National Park, the Panorama Route, or enjoying adventurous activities such as rafting and hiking. We are happy to provide advice, maps, and assistance with organizing excursions. We recommend booking activities in advance to ensure everything runs smoothly.
