Schafplaas Events venue offers you the opportunity to experience the ambience and rustic charm of a real West Coast farm environment while retaining the style and elegance required to make your function an unforgettable success. Schaftplaas was born in the late 1700’s when Simon van der Stel proclaimed it as a farm to the Frijburgers. The farm originated next to a natural fresh water fountain. Hendrik Albertyn built the house in 1832. The farmers from inland used to bring fresh produce to the ships that visited Saldanha Bay harbour. They used Schaftplaas as a resting haven, to feed the oxen and get fresh water supplies. Hence the origin of the name, “schaft” means ‘‘to eat”. The canons from the ships were used to announce the number of days until they reach the shore. One canon shot equals one day from land. It took the farmers one full day to travel form Schaftplaas to Saldanha Harbour. The old big gumtrees, horse stables, proper farm style home and white washed outbuildings welcomes you to Schaftplaas. Typical braai barbecues are served upon request and a private bar in the main building provides the chance to relax with a fresh drink or beverage.

Horse riding, game viewing, swimming, boat trips, fishing trips, can all be arranged within 18 km from Schaftplaas. A stones throw away inland, is world famous wine estates such as Swartland Wines, Darling and Riebeeck wines, and many other famous wine labels. Even Darling Brew (craft beer) is close by. Schaftplaas is 18km from Langebaan, Club Mykonos Resort/Casino, restaurants, beach, golf course etc. and 17km from the quaint little town, Hopefield. Langebaan is set in the Saldanha district, which is the playground of the Cape West Coast Peninsula, and natural water sport haven, within an hours’ drive from Cape Town. It's sandy beaches and calm waters borders the West Coast National Park and has many restaurants and accommodation on the banks of the Lagoon. Langebaan is surrounded by many unique West Coast fishing villages such as Paternoster, which is renowned for its crayfish and hospitable locals, and Velddrift which is renowned for its West Coast Bokkoms (wind dried fish).
