Kokonoe Machiya is a place filled with thoughtfulness, warmth, and lots of attention to detail. Even before we arrived, Toni was already helpful with receiving our bags which we had sent over in advance. He prepared some wonderful Japanese breakfasts that were perfect for New Years celebration in Japan (with some delicious pudding to end with). The shared bathrooms and toilets were convenient and always clean, and having a well set-up Google assistant in the room was a great function we didn't even know we wanted. The quiet walks to and from the bus stops gave us a nice glimpse of local life. Chatting with Toni was delightful; his openness and sincerity were truly felt and allowed for some heartfelt and enjoyable conversation. It was very interesting to see the culture from his unique perspective. We had a really comfortable stay and left feeling inspired and refreshed.

The beds and pillows were very comfortable This has been my favourite place to stay Could change heating and air conditioning yourself Big window with net to let air in but no flies Has a washing machine and maiden and supply you with washing up liquid! Location was perfect for so many things in Kyoto. Hotel was quiet, clean and excellent value. When I return to Kyoto I will definitely stay there again! Thank you...Oh, and you can open the window in your room, which is almost impossible to do at almost all hotels in Kyoto.
