The best inn I have ever stayed inn! It's a 1500s building and it is gorgeous and fascinating inside. So much to look at, lovingly and tastefully restored and preserved. See pics. Fantastic staff. I didn't use the pub / restaurant but it looked superb. I did have breakfast which was 10 out of 10, see pic. The location is in the heart of the historic old town, all the streets are narrow and quaint, I managed to find parking up the street, but the whole area wasn't designed for motor cars. Be aware that the many steep stairs are not suitable if you have mobility issues or heavy suitcases, so if that's you call them to discuss your options. See the pic of the paper they gave me to help me navigate the labyrinth! Overall the best historic property I have ever stayed in, and I have travelled a lot. Don't miss staying here!

A vibrant and friendly English pub with rooms that was very welcoming with delicious food and drink and has won many awards for its cask ales and cider. Perfect location for our visit near Chelmsford being in the countryside and only 11 miles from Stansted airport, it may be remote for some but is so much better than the usual bland corporate hotels and a rare find nowadays.

What a great Hotel, Great rooms, fantastic breakfast. The attention to detail was outstanding. lovely art everywhere, unusually , they even had sound damping panels in the dining room a testament to how they thought about EVERYTHING. Highly rated.

Had 2 dinners at the pub and they were really nice. Room is very clean and comfortable. All the staff are so friendly. Breakfast is very nice too. Wifi works fine. Be aware if you have problem accessing the log in page, just go downstairs and access the web page to log in. After that, you can freely go back to the room to use Wifi. The signal is very good.

This 16th-century inn in Braintree town centre is 25 minutes from Stansted Airport. It offers free Wi-Fi, a free private car park and 2 characterful bars with log fires. Customer service was absolutely top tier! They allowed my family of 5 to leave our luggage safely in their office until we could check in, as we arrived a little early. Helped us get ahold of a taxi that could accommodate 5 people. They treated us like family the entire time we were there! 10/10 will be back!5
