We got a room upgrade to a suite which was lovely. Dinner was good, although the entire hotel was very quiet as there were very few guests. Breakfast was ok....nothing special.

Salamandra is the most beautiful place to say with very unique artwork all over. José is a very kind host and a fantastic cook and made a delicious breakfast for my family and I. We had two rooms with beautiful artwork in both. It is a very easy drive from SJO Airport and was a perfect overnight stop for us on the way to Tortuguero. I wish we had more time to stay and look around at all the wildlife and artwork. Really a very beautiful place.

Absolutely fantastic, the cabins are lovely, bed comfy and the owners first class. The restaurant has great food and is brilliant value. We sat out the front of our cabin and watched toucans flying in and out of the trees! Howler monkeys in the background. Breakfast was an added bonus. Brilliant value for money, we would have paid more. We could have easily spent a few days just sitting watching the wildlife in really comfortable surroundings.

A cozy converted shipping container just outside of town in the middle of a cacao plantation. A chocolate lover's dream! Upon arrival, Oscar, the hospitable owner picks some cacao pods for us, opening the ripest one so we can try a cocoa bean. Delicious! We savour the flavour as he explains the chocolate making process. A gift of candied cacao beans is our next tasty treat. Oscar is a good cook as well and breakfast is served at his restaurant about a kilometer away. Be sure to try the tea made from cacao bean shells. Candied, flavoured cacao beans, chocolate and cacao teas are available for sale. This was one of our favourite places to stay in Costa Rica. Oscar made us feel so welcome and was so helpful, always available if needed. Such a great and interesting experience. We wish we could have stayed longer.

We just stayed for one night while traveling but we would have stayed longer had we known the place before! Klaus is an amazingly friendly host. He took a lot of time to show us the property, served excellent breakfast and offered dinner and was all around pleasant. The guest house is well built and comfortable. There is a lot of forest in the area that you can probably go hiking in (we haven't tried given the brevity of our stay).
