Basic, but really beautiful venue. Surrounded by trees with the feel of an eco-lodge. There’s a kite shack on the beach, and from your hut you can see the bay and start kiting right from there. The staff and owner are incredibly friendly and happy to go on all kinds of trips with you. The food is excellent. Quiet.

We had a lovely time at the Royal Sakalava! Everything was perfect and we had an amazing kitesurfing holiday. Lucas and his team were super friendly and always eager to assist and help. We had two different rooms because we extended our stay. The first (#5) was close to the pool and better / more private than the second one (#6). The hotel is set 200 meters back from the beach which we liked but some might prefer to be right on the beach. When you get to the beach you are at the far end of the busy part of the beach. Turn left and there's a gorgeous stretch of almost totally deserted soft white sand with warm crystal clear water. Turn right and it's the same beach, but it gets gradually busier, and soon you get to the village of Ramena where you'll find dozens of small restaurants serving excellent seafood. The hotel also has a small swimming pool which is nice for cooling off. It's easy to arrange excursions from there. We went to the Montagne des Francais - it's well worth the effort to climb to the summit where you have a stunning 360 degree view of the bay. You can also walk to Baie des Dunes and Baie des Pigeons - it's a hot sweaty walk but totally doable. However, despite all the fuss about the Trois Baies, the beach at Orangea which is just around the headland from Ramena has got to be one of the nicest beaches in the world.

An absolutely gorgeous, luxurious place, in the middle of nature! The rooms are very clean, equipped with hot water and non-stop electricity (which is very hard to find in Madagascar). The staff is very friendly and the food...speechless. It's the kind of hotel where you feel at home. Also, if you are passionate about kite surfing, here you can practice this water sport in very good conditions! The wifi works very well, the internet connection is via Starlink. Overall, 10/10!
