The water is originally sulfur fresh. The outdoor onsen was nice and clean. Unfortunately the sauna was broken and the laydown onsen was not working. And the smoking area is pretty far from the second floor.

I had an amazing stay at Shimanto Riverside Hideaway. The place were gorgeous, had lovely view of nature, and was equipped with comfortable amenities. I was able to connect with nature and embraced the peaceful sounds of the river. The owners there were very hospitable, helping with directions and answering any questions I had. In the morning, it was snowing heavily, the children had a great time playing outdoors in the snow - an amazing experience! Highly recommended staying.
