The Brukenthal is a stately palace from 1788, formerly used as the summer residence of Transylvanian Baron Samuel von Brukenthal. It now offers accommodation with free Wi-Fi, just 50 metres from Avrig Train Station. Sibiu lies 28 km to the west. Everything, the domain is absolutly wonderful and deserves to spend more days there, u will not get bored. I guess in summer the swimming pool is also open (we have been there in May, and it was not filled up yet) Also, a nice surprise it was the kids playground, I did not expect to have such thing there :)

We were there at the beginning of spring for the yearly MTB contest and were able to see the mountains still snowy. We've tried both the A-frame and the tree house and were both great. If you can choose, I suggest the treehouse. Also, it was quite cold outside, but the heating was great. We even had to stop it in the night because it got too warm. The host is great and you can see that she cares about the place and the guests.

The hospitality of the hotel staff was outstanding. The first day we arrived late, it was a weekday between 2 touristic seasons, there were maybe 2-3 rooms filled only. They opened the hot tub and sauna, cook dinner just for us (and the food was really fresh copious and perfectly done). The general manager Sorin offered us local palinka, spontaneously suggested different things to visit, told us about history of Dacian people with his sense of humor... Other waiters were very attentive too, when the buffet is not worth (too few guests) they even remember what we like and serve us fresh and generous breakfast: amazing omelette, cheese charcuterie plateau, veggies and fruits, yogurt coffee and juice... anything you ask for and even didn't think of!)
