You can visit Abu Simbel in one day : traveling from/to Aswan in one day as most people do... of course ! But it is advisable to spend at least one night here in order to enjoy the suroundings, the temple light&music night show, countryside daily life, normal Egyptian people caffes, dinner, etc, etc Besides usuall staff as any hotel, this one has 3 people just taking care that clients feel at home, 24 hours attending ANY need you might have, taking you by tuck-tuck or car to any place you need, buying medicines for you, preparing any food at any time...I feel this "scort" system is much more efficient than any 5* hotel I ever stayed... and much, much more friendly. You feel as if visiting your family at their home, which is now your home. just visit Egyptian temples when you have the chance to share their life, their culture...is just a waste of time !

The staff are amazing, very welcoming, friendly and attentive and accommodating - you feel like you’re part of a family and this is what made us feel comfortable as if we’re at home. The hotel grounds are pretty, give you the summer island holiday feel with lovely Nubian art and decoration. The Jacuzzi is big enough to fit 3 people comfortably. Service was very efficient, we requested boats to go to Philae Temple twice and both times the boats were prepared on time or earlier than requested. The shuttle boat that brings you to Aswan is free of charge and 24h available. We went to Abu Simbel one day and left around 4am, the hotel gave us breakfast boxes, the boxes were huge with a lot of sandwiches, fruits, baked goods, water, juice - so much that actually a box would suffice for 2 people instead of one. The location of the hotel is nice because it is secluded so it is therefore very peaceful, you’re in the middle of the nile with nice views to enjoy. Since are not really interested in the city of Aswan itself and were only there to visit Philae and Abu Simbel - both of which are quite far away anyway - the location was perfect for us because we did not need the city center, so this is a point to keep in mind.

This hotel is truly a hidden gem in the desert, like a real oasis. Nestled between the mountains and desert with the Nile River flowing nearby, the location offers an unforgettable and breathtaking experience. The setting is something you won’t want to miss, with the tranquil beauty of the Nile and the rugged surroundings creating a perfect contrast. What makes this place even more special is the attention to detail. Everything feels carefully handcrafted, showcasing the true talent and artistry behind the hotel’s design. It gives off an authentic charm that’s hard to find elsewhere. The staff adds to the wonderful experience, always friendly and eager to assist with anything you may need. A special shoutout to Saad, who arranged everything flawlessly and made our stay smooth and enjoyable with his warm, accommodating nature. The in-house restaurant is another highlight. The food is absolutely delicious, offering a range of tasty dishes that add to the overall experience. We had an awesome stay at Nubian Lotus. It is a very beautiful and boutique guesthouse on elephantine island. We stayed 3 nights and had a great time. The guesthouse is directly at the Nile with a beautiful view of botanical island. It is very peaceful and rural there. After a couple of days in Cairo it was like heaven. Clean air and silence, except for animal noises which took us at the first night a little getting used to, but on the second day it was a welcome noise. Much better than noisy cars. But for those with a light sleep earplugs might be a good choice. We were also very grateful for the breakfast to go. When we had our trip to Abu Simbel, which started at 6 am, Marta prepared a very delicious breakfast to go. Just need to inform early enough. We enjoyed our stay a lot!!

Visit the temples in the afternoon (after 03.00pm) because the is nobody (except perhaps some extroverted sceaming chinese girls - but once they are gone). Yes, it´s hotter than in the morning and the light is not prefect. but you will have the temple for yourself and you will be able to make perfect photos from inside.

The stay at Abdu’s houseboat was nothing but mind blowing.

The stay at Abdu’s houseboat was nothing but mind blowing. I stayed in the houseboat for 5 days with my mother. We both feel like we gained a friend in Abdu and hope to see him again one time. He is so kind and caring! Not only did he help us arrange everything in terms of tours (to Filae, Abu Simbel, a Nubian village, the botanical garden and more) and activities (Falluca sailing, Zaraha sand meditation, bird watching trip, exploring the Souk, swimming in the Nile, transfer to Luxor via Edfu and Kom Ombo and more), he also helped us with his second smaller boat to get everywhere, get local products for local prices, assimilate to the local culture by clothing and customs, cooked for us (he also made sure all food was well washed), helped us donate goods and clothes to the local school, and assisted us in getting tickets for the night train from Luxor to Caïro, ATM withdrawals and simcards). We truly think he has a heart of gold and works with honesty not soley for money. His houseboat has everything you need for an authentic stay. Our cabin was spacious enough for the two of us and had an amazing view over the Elephantine Island. The terraces was facing the beautiful botanical garden on Kitchener Island. Due to the placement of the boat you have some shade in the morning and you can enjoy the sunset in the evening. If you look for a real experience and want to dive in the culture and day to day livestyle on the Nile, the boat is definitely something for you. We are truly greatful we’ve met Abdu and can definitely recommend a stay with him on his lovely houseboat. We hope to see him again one day!

From the moment I arrived, I felt embraced not just as a guest, but as family. The warmth and genuine hospitality of the entire household created a peaceful refuge that allowed me to rest, reflect, and reconnect with what matters. I especially appreciated the loving way they cared for their children, the heartfelt conversations, and their openness to cultural exchange. The meals were nourishing, the environment was clean and safe, and the small, thoughtful gestures—like helping with errands or offering fruit—left a deep impression on me. I was also moved by their humility, sincerity, and the quiet strength with which they manage the responsibilities of life.

Aswan is less of a tourist town than Luxor or Giza, but the vibe is still there - mainly centred around the dams, Temple of Philae and short or long boat trips. However, if you stay at a guesthouse on Elephantine Island, you can find lovely hosts, good food and compelling views which together make a compelling case to spend more time here relaxing, rather than just seeing the sights.

Abu Simbel is truly breathtaking. We visited around noon on a blessed day during Ramadan, so there weren't many tourists. At times, it felt like we had the entire sites to ourselves. You can walk or take a transport cart to the sites.

Aswan has a very different feel to Cairo and Luxor. It operates on a much slower pace. Less hassle in the markets and on the roads. The islands, especially Elephantine Island, are wonderful and unique to visit. Try Makka Restaurant by the train station for simply excellent local food.
