FAQs about hotels in Sardinia

Jewel of the Mediterranean

This fabulous Italian island is an exclusive holiday destination, so of all the Sardinia hotels 5 star properties make up a good proportion. Several are on the wonderful Emerald Coast, known for its stunning scenery. Because of the fantastic beaches and coves, this area (Costa Smeralda in Italian) houses some of the best Sardinia hotels for families.

Amazing Emerald Coast resorts include Porto Rotondo, Porto Cervo with its exclusive harbour, and Baia Sardinia. Palau overlooks the La Maddalena archipelago, a national park comprising peaceful islands. There are also several Sardinia hotels on the beach in Pula, a resort popular with locals.

Sardinia also has lots of history to explore. Close to Pula is Nora, where there are remains of a Roman town. Other Roman ruins are found in a dramatic setting at Tharros, near Oristano.

However, it’s the nuraghe - prehistoric megaliths - that are typically Sardinian. Found all over the island, these stone structures are incredibly well preserved. The most famous is Su Nuraxi in Barumini and there are several near Alghero, a walled city with narrow streets and a sandy beach. The prehistoric settlement at Tiscali in the Gennargentu mountains is most easily accessed from Dorgali.

Booking.com also has hotels in Cagliari, the island’s capital. Bastione San Remy offers panoramic city views towards fabulous Poetto beach beyond.

This review is written from the heart, because this place was simply amazing — and words cannot do it justice. Staying here felt like stepping into a vivid dream: full of colors, beauty, and peace. The photos are stunning, the reviews are glowing, and while they are all true, they cannot capture the experience of being here. This is much more than a hotel — it is a living center of Sardinian history and culture. Giovanna and her husband have done an exceptional job transforming what was once a humble family restaurant into an extraordinary universe for both locals and visitors. Time seems to stop inside. The property is larger than expected, with quite a few stairs (something to be aware of), and everywhere you look there are thoughtful details. The rooms are charming and comfortable, with beds designed for rest and interiors that feel like home rather than a typical hotel. The corridors are lined with art, traditional costumes, and books — a living tribute to Sardinia’s heritage. Take the time to explore it all; it’s worth it. From the garden with homegrown herbs and chickens, to the different bars, to the quiet corners filled with color and character — every space inspires wonder. Breakfast was lovely, with quality ingredients and plenty of choice, and during the day there were other dining options available. We also took part in one of their experiences — the centenary tradition — and it left us speechless. I won’t spoil it, because it is something you must discover for yourself, but it moved me deeply, and even now I feel emotional just recalling it. The combination of setting, food, storytelling, and history made it one of the most special experiences I have ever had. This is not just a place to stay — it is an immersive journey that makes you feel warm, cared for, and connected to something bigger. Thank you to Giovanna, her husband, and the whole team. We will absolutely be back, because once you’ve lived this, there is no other option. ♥

We had the best time! The staff is SO FRIENDLY and helpful. We loved the variation of pools and little sitting areas throughout the common spaces. The resort rooms are all arranged like a little village with beautiful vines and flowers everywhere. I was especially impressed with their restaurant since I have dietary restrictions and everything is labeled if it contains common allergens. With so many activities available ( the sea sports, bikes, quads, tennis courts, volleyball courts, ping pong, spa, exercise classes and evening entertainment) we will definitely need to stay longer next time.

The property looks just like the images online, it’s has a beautiful pool, beautiful and clean beach, the rooms were super clean and deigned well. We were travelling with my pregnant sister and they were super accommodating with the location of the rooms. It felt really safe and it may be that we travelled late in august but it wasn’t over crowded, and it is a perfect get away with family where you can completely switch off and relax.

Nice city with a cute old town, perfect for visiting and strolling around a few days. Of course quite touristy in the main old town areas, but still a lot of place to discover and explore without too many crowds. Nice to be so close to the sea, and with car, easy access to some great beaches if you want to get away from the city itself. Seemed to be quite a lot of nice restaurants available, we tried some, but a lot more to explore. Definitely worth a visit, but don't plan for more than a couple of days, as it's quite small.

You definitely need a car to get around but the cost is definitely worth it. The area is lovely and a boat trip to La Maddalena is a must. Photos do not do justice to the crystal clear turquoise water and unspoiled beaches. This is high praise coming from someone who rarely goes to the beach! This stay was my first and hopefully not my last but I would have stayed longer if I could have. We enjoyed good meals in various places including a recommended restaurant at a small beach which was atmospheric with a beautiful view. I don’t think you can go wrong wherever you choose to eat. The place feels safe and the people are friendly and polite.

The region (Barbagia) is a paradise for outdoors activities---hiking, climbing, trail running, spelunking, mountain biking. Moreover, one of the most beautiful sections of the Sardinian coast (the Orosei gulf) is only a half hour drive away, with great opportunities for swimming, sunbathing, and sea kayaking The city is small, quiet, and very safe with excellent food. Moreover, its rich cultural tradition (Nuoro officially calls itself "The Athens of Sardinia") offers several options such as museum and exhibitions focused on the local history and culture.

La Maddalena is an amazing place if you want a relaxing holiday focusing on beaches and nature. We spent there about a week and everyday went to a different beach, and every new beach was more beautiful than previous one! There is a beautiful marine life, so bring your snorkeling gear! It was one of the biggest reasons we chose La Maddalena for holiday, and it exceeded our expectations! The best beaches for snorkeling where at La Caprera. Just swim next to the rocky edges of the beach, and you can find all the colorful fish there (also rogues and squids).

Porto Torres is a small town and one can think it has not much to offer. Actually, it has some very good and special restaurants and in August it hosts the “summer carnival” which is very nice. But the nicest thing about it is the logistic position ; with maximum 30 minutes driving you can reach many different beaches in any direction
