Only 3 advantage of this hotel are : 1. Free night cup hour ., free alcohol and snacks . 2. The public spa big enough 3. family with kids you can come to have a visit Other than those are poor. Gorgeous on the outside , poor in the inside. So I marked as this. If you are looking for a place to relax and have a good sleep you SHOULD NOT COME HERE

We had a room with private onsen on the balcony. We enjoyed using it at night. The hotel's location is so close to nature, we could hear what sounded like deer rustling through the woods behind the property. The location is relatively remote, in Okunikko (which needs a car/bus from the main Nikko area). We arrived by bus and then walked about 10 minutes from the main road to the hotel's entrance. For us, this remoteness was great. The room was very large. The best thing for us was the outside private onsen, with a great view of the woods and Lake Chujenzi behind it. Please see attached photo. We had dinner and breakfast at the hotel. They both felt like very luxury experiences. They were traditional Japanese meals (many small dishes) and were delicious. The restaurant staff were very friendly and could explain the menu to us in English. The service was generally very good. The hotel offered free drinks when we arrived to check in, including beer (you can help yourself). This was great, because we spent the morning/early afternoon exploring all the various temples etc in Nikko. The shared onsen were great. There were three for the men (and three for women too, I believe) of various sizes. The largest was indoor and the other two were outdoor. I especially enjoyed the outdoor onsen, listening to the birds whilst the morning light filtered through the maple trees. This was once of our favourite experiences of our Japan holiday. The next time I visit Japan, I would like to visit Nikko again and I would like to stay at this same hotel.

This stunning hotel has a private onsen for rent in addition to its public pools for its quests (indoor+ open air with view, jacuzzi, sauna). They are also tattoo friendly! The rooms are traditional Japanese tatami and they make the beds/take them away for you. They have a game room (billiards, pingpong table etc). The dinner shabushabu was excellent!

It is actually a hotel that offers more than what it costs. I booked the room with river view, the room is spacious and clean. It have public onsen and private onsen but you need to arrive early in order to book the private onsen. The meal is delicious and they even offer free flow alchohol drink at dinner!

We stayed near Lake Chuzenji, which was nearer to some of the spots that we wanted to go to, namely Keigon Falls and Ryuzu Falls. Very nice small town vibe, which also means that everything there opens rather late, and most of them closes pretty early. Was there during the middle of November, and unfortunately the trees there were already transitioning into winter, so the lovely colors of autumn leaves were mostly gone when we were there. It would have looked even more splendid in its full autumn glory, I bet. Also spent a bit of time at the Nikko town, visiting the Nikko Toshogu temple and enjoyed some of the local delicacies. The age yuba manjyuu near the Tobu-Nikko station is to die for. Loved the place.

Nasu is well known and loved by Japanese people.

Nasu is well known and loved by Japanese people. The Emperor has a summer house here as it tends to be cooler in summer. It’s little known by westerners and therefore is not catered to westerners. Parts of Nasu are very beautiful and other parts are set up for families - eg the zoo and the Dairy farm. There are some lovely restaurants and places to visit here but you really need a car to do it.

i saw most of the historical places in town, but no time to enjoy the scenic areas, waterfalls, hiking, etc. a bit rushed. i was glad to find the art museum at Toshogu (not the main museum). Toshogu was wall to wall students & tourists. at the main museum, one could review all of the architecture, history is some peace & quiet, but the art museum was practically empty. more staff than tourists. there were lovely paintings, and ceramic ware to admire. the garden view was beautiful. i felt like i was in my own private museum. with only one day, i was satisfied with the sights i managed to see, following a reddit suggestion to take the bus to the grandson's shrine and walk downhill, but wish i had the time to pace myself to enjoy how scenic the area is.

The Nasu Kaido is a famous and really scenic road that goes from the lowlands of Nasu town all the way up to the Nasu mountains, and it's beautiful to drive up - if you have a car. The road is a two lane highway that (in Summer) is very busy and not intended for bicycle or pedestrian use when you get to the uphill portions of the road, so be sure to use a vehicle or public transportation if you want to go further up it. The public transportation options are present - you can take the Shinkansen to NasuShiobara Station, then take the bus to the Nasu Mountain Ropeway, then take the ropeway to the near top of one of the mountain peaks and hike from there. It's a good venture, though if you try it on the weekend, be sure to check when the last buses operate, or else you might have to take a taxi.

I really enjoyed the city of Nikko—it is truly beautiful and delightful to visit. Its location in the mountains, surrounded by valleys and stunning natural scenery, creates a very peaceful and refreshing atmosphere. I highly recommend visiting this city, especially during autumn when the colors are absolutely breathtaking. However, many restaurants close quite early, and some even stopped accepting guests before their posted closing time. In the evening, most shops were already closed, which made it a bit challenging to find dining options at night. For those planning a trip here, it is much more convenient to have your own car, as the buses often arrive late and are frequently full. Despite these minor inconveniences, Nikko remains a wonderful destination and is definitely worth visiting.
