Everything was really great. The room, the staff, the restaurant and the position close to the city center. They also offer breakfast takeaway for who, like us, wanted to start an hike early in the morning. We didn’t find anything we would like to be improved.

Above all the friendliness and determination of the staff to ensure that we were happy and satisfied. But the breakfast also deserves a special mention, it was out of this world! Really nice hotel in a central location of Porto Moniz and has a small parking lot (probably gets busy quick in high season but there is paid lots nearby for 5 Euros a day). The pool on the top of the roof is lovely and has an amazing view. The room was really modern, with a balcony over looking the water and really clean. The breakfast was really nice. The staff was awesome, especially the woman who gave us our welcome drink and was working during breakfast. They also gave everyone a free bottle of sparkling wine on the first night.

Great hotel by a stunning beach. Rooms are perfect and the food (we had all inclusive) was delicious. Drinks at the pool bar are superb. Helpful and professional staff. The beach, the room and the breakfast are the highlights of this hotel… in that order! So I recommend it. This hotel has all the potential to be the best hotel in Porto Santo. However it is not quite there yet, it needs some improve in management and staff training (receptionists).

FAQs about hotels in Madeira Archipelago

The Island of Eternal Spring

With lush landscapes, brightly coloured flowers and a mild, year-round climate, it’s easy to see why Madeira is called the ‘Island of Eternal Spring’. Its interior is mountainous, so most resorts are coastal, many at the foot of steep cliffs.

One such resort is Paul do Mar, a fishing village known for whale watching and surfing, as is Jardim do Mar, on a plateau just east. Nearby Calheta has 2 white sand beaches protected by breakwaters.

The main resort is the capital Funchal. Cascading down slopes, it has the lion’s share of 5-star hotels in Madeira on Booking.com. A cable car ascending into the hills offers fantastic views towards the harbour where cruise liners and ferries from neighbouring Porto Santo island are berthed.

East, Caniço’s sandy beach is nestled between rocky cliffs, while Santa Cruz is the nearest resort to Madeira Airport. Machico is the 2nd biggest city and has the best nightlife outside Funchal, but the best Madeira hotels for families are in quieter resorts such as Porto da Cruz in the north.

Santana is home to the triangular-shaped, thatched houses typical of the island, and twisting mountain roads lead to São Vicente, an attractive hill town with red-roofed houses. By the north-western tip is the village of Porto Moniz whose offshore rocks shelter natural rock pools.

The house was very big and had everything we needed. There was a garden with furniture and lovely views to the mountains and to the sea. Although a little out of the centre of Santa Cruz and we didn't have a car there were plenty taxis costing about 5 euros which we took. The owners went above and beyond, giving us a tour of Santa cruz and showing us the shops, markets and places of interest. They were very lovely people with hearts of gold 💛

The quality of suites are more like a 4* hotel, a very nice large pool, plentiful breakfast and tasty coffee. The ladies in reception are very friendly, helpful and polite, and offered me to check out a few hours later. It was low season, so I got a really good deal. Make sure to watch the sunrise from the beach ( 3 minutes walk from the garden gate), people from surrounding hotels also come out in the mornings and take a dip in the water.

Machico is a very pleasant place to stay in Madeira. It’s relatively quiet compared to Funchal, but it is nice and peaceful. Some good hiking nearby.

Some good hiking nearby. It is of course pretty steep even on the roads. We visited for the swimming but, it being December and just after a storm, the pools were closed. Our stay was for 5 days and we kept busy but the place is quiet in December. The amount of car parking implies the place is busy with day trippers when the weather is warmer - and the pools are open.

Calhetta itself is small and the main part of it centres around the harbour. As you might expect this means that all the major activities are boat-based such as whale and dolphin watching, sailing, fishing, excursions etc. but there are also lots of restaurants and bars overlooking the harbour where you can get a great meal - especially if you like fish - or just relax for the evening and watch the sunset.
