Ryokan Asunaro: A Traditional Japanese Inn in Takayama.

Nestled just a 6-minute walk from Takayama Station and the Nohi Bus Center, Ryokan Asunaro offers an authentic Japanese inn experience.

Our rooms are designed with traditional Japanese aesthetics, featuring tatami mat flooring throughout. For those who prefer a futon on tatami or a bed, we also offer Japanese-Western style rooms. The warm ambiance is further enhanced by local artists' paintings adorning the walls. From you enter the reception you are met with a beautiful traditional Japanese interier, it is very well done. Everyone there were very polite and respectful, from staff to other guests. We three women arrived around 16, were able to select a cute yukata each we wore as much as possible for our one night stay, and were shown our room which were as big as a small apartment. We choose to go directly to the onsen which had just opened for the afternoon and had the place for ourselves. Very well stocked with brushes, hairties, lotions, everything free to use! the rooms were nice and comfortable, there was a beautiful tea set for us to use so we had a tea party in our yukatas, before dinner. We had paid for the dinner which was serving after serving of small dishes and a particularly tasty hida beef with miso dish. The beds and shower were great, nothing to complain about there, we had the traditional breakfast the day after with a self serve bar of drinks such as tea, coffee, juice and milk. Oh and we also went down to the onsen before breakfast and were once again alone to relax and take our time. It was probably the most expensive stay we have included on our trip but it was also by far the best experience we have had, and can recommend anyone to try it even just for a night like us, if not more ☺️

It was beautiful, very clean and in a great location just a short walk from the historic centre of Takayama. The staff were incredibly friendly and kind, and made us feel so at home. I can’t recommend it enough!

The property offers free on-site parking and free shuttle service from/to Gero Station. Free WiFi is provided at the lobby and free parking is available on site. Staff was exceptionally kind and understanding despite our limited language skills. The outdoor onsen was very comfortable, and the room was wonderful to stay in.

The property also provides free pick-up service from JR Takayama Station. Free shuttle bus service is available when check-in, check-out, after dinner. Everything. It is a fabulous place to stay. From the delicious breakfasts, both western and Japanese, to the wonderful warm hospitality from Tai, and his lovely alum and Dad.

Set amid a beautiful landscape in Okuhida Onsengo hot-spring area, Yamazatonoiori Soene offers beautiful rooms in a Japanese style with river or garden views. The property is 80-munite bus ride from JR Takayama Station, and Fukuchi Yurimizaka (HO41) bus stop is a 3-minute walk away.

Guests can relax in the indoor and outdoor baths with its natural hot spring water. Kashikiri (private baths) are also available and can be reserved for free. This place was incredible. I cannot write enough good things about it! The service was above and beyond (even relative to the generally high standard in Japan). The food was delicious and plentiful, and the whole place was so serene. There are three onsen options - a "regular" public one, three private ones on a first-come-first-serve bases, and an outdoor public one with incredible views of a waterfall. We visited all three and all were great. We never had trouble getting one of the private ones when we wanted to, and the others weren't crowded either. The staff and waiters were very helpful and accomodating, and the whole experience was thoroughly relaxing. Worth noting that a short walk (maybe 5 minutes) from the hotel is the start of a hiking trail with amazing views (a good way to fill the time between soaks ;) ).

Located in the centre of Takayama Historic District, Ryokan Tanabe 旅館田邊 is one of the most historical ryokans in the city. It features Japanese-style rooms and free WiFi in all areas. Guests can request relaxing massage treatments or soak in the indoor and outdoor hot-spring baths, which are made of rocks and cypress wood. The location is the best, close to station and old town area. The food is great. and staffs very helpful
