Tongariro Crossing Lodge was a great place to stay for our family (parents, 2 adult daughters). Our main purpose was to do the Tongariro Alpine Crossing the next day. However, after consulting with Louis (owner) and looking at the predicted cloud cover, we opted to delay the hike an extra day Louis kindly suggested alternative shorter hikes/activities near by, which were very enjoyable. Louis had also reserved spots for us on the shuttle (to/from hike) but upon our arrival and discussion, we decided to drive ourselves to the carpark which ended up being a good idea since the day we hiked was extremely cloudy, not clearing up until about 1pm. Driving ourselves allowed us to be flexible and enjoy the stunning views for another hour instead of rushing back to make the 5:30pm shuttle. In addition to the room (ours was newly renovated), you could also pay for a continental breakfast and sack lunch which Louis brought to our room the night before the hike. Very convenient and yummy!! Lodge was also within walking distance of restaurants (two that we ate at had great views of mountains, sunset) and small store. All in all, we really enjoyed our stay - perfect for us :). Louis was also very responsive prior to our trip, answering my many questions.

Cornwall Motor Lodge ligger mindre end 10 minutters gang fra The Square og tilbyder værelser med egen forplejning i centrum af Palmerston North. Very friendly people and great spot. Awesome rooms with all and more you need.

Plateau Lodge is located 15 minutes’ drive from UNESCO World Heritage listed Tongariro National Park, where guests can enjoy skiing, hiking, cycling and paddling activities. We stayed in a King Pod and it was terrific! Private, very comfortable bed, hot shower and an amazing soaking tub. Loved our stay there and wish we had stayed the night after we hiked the Crossing too!

Ideally located on Whanganui’s main street, Aotea Motor Lodge offers free WiFi and free wired broadband internet access. Double spa baths are provided in every unit. The rooms were spacious, well maintained and extremely clean. They had everything as promised and matched the pictures. As a standard, they provide a small kitchenette in room with cutlery, microwave, mini fridge and a coffee set. The room had a heater, air conditioner, television and also a working jacuzzi. Fresh towels were provided with amenities except a shaving kit. The wardrobe had a hair drier and iron with iron board. The staff were extremely friendly and kept a good eye for anything left behind post check-out. Room has instruction manual for everything, including the air conditioning and all electronic equipment. A small booklet was provided with guide to Whanganui. The property is placed at a perfect location, right next to major supermarkets and fuel stations, the Whanganui town is about 15mins walk from the location. Although there is no restaurant on-site, fast food joints are right next to it within walking distance and so is Whanganui town as mentioned.

Located just a 2-minute walk from the City Centre, Copthorne Hotel Palmerston North offers free on-site parking. While the room was wonderful, clean and most comfortable indeed, it was the super friendly staff that made our stay just so pleasurable. We can't praise the staff too much !
