A lovely hotel with incredible staff. Great room and facilities. My friends are vegan and the staff went out of their way to make sure the included dinner menu was modified for them so they could enjoy it. Thank you to the chef and the restaurant staff for being so kind and accommodating!

First, I have to admit that it was one of my best experience on Booking. This ryokan was really nice, comfortable and the staff was exceptionally kind. They are really taking care of each details for customers/tourists experience. The building itself is fantastic and we were feeling so good in this place. The location is also good, 5/10mn walk from the station and the main street.

This is an amazing place to stay. The building is brand new so everything is stunningly clean and up to date yet still retains a traditional Japanese aesthetic and structure. And moreover, the family have been running an Inn here for 16 generations and 300 years so they REALLY know a thing or two about what excellent service means. They are the best hosts imaginable - courteous, polite, unfailingly helpful and knowledgeable. But the best thing - apart from the beautiful room and fantastic luxurious bathing facilities is the FOOD! Wow! Simply stunning breakfast and dinner. Can’t recommend this Inn highly enough. If you’re going to Mt Mitake then do stay here (if they’ve got room!)

The hosts were gentle, kind and accommodating. The dinner there is wonderful, requiring a booking ahead of time. Breakfast is served upon request. The location is very relaxing, tree views and lovely noise of crickets and birdsong (be aware a few bugs such as locusts and dragonflies might visit the balcony). The balcony telescope may be used on a clear night. The rooms are large and have WiFi and air conditioning, good showers and a toilet. Beautiful (Japanese cedar?) furniture and traditional Tatami mats and futon beds. There is a washer and dryer available for guest usage. The hotel is accessible by a bus from the local train station. There are convenience stores and restaurants closeby, and great hikes such as Mount Takao, just a 45 minute journey away. I even made a trip into central Tokyo via train which took around 2 hours. All in all, Kougetsu Sanso was great value and easily the highlight of our stay in Japan. Thank you Hoshima and team! <3
