Surrounded by rolling hills and Chianti vineyards, Siena shines as a jewel of the Tuscan Renaissance, and has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Experience the famous Palio di Siena horse race, catch the pulse of the city at Piazza del Campo, visit the beautiful Duomo cathedral…and fall in love with this charming city!
Founded by Etruscans around 900 BC, the city was first conquered by Romans and later by Lombards. The Middle Ages saw it becoming the independent and flourishing Republic of Siena, until its annexation to the Grand Duchy of Tuscany.
The economic difficulties that followed turned out to be a blessing for the preservation of its historic center. Adorned with frescoes by Ghirlandaio and bass-reliefs by Donatello, Lorenzo Ghiberti, and Jacopo della Quercia, the Duomo represents the highest expression of this well-kept legacy. The shell-shaped Piazza del Campo, with the Palazzo Pubblico and the Gaia Fountain, is still the heart and soul of the city. Follow the labyrinth of narrow streets and passages that irradiate from there and you will be enchanted by its romantic atmosphere from ancient times.
The closest airports are Peretola Airport in Florence and Galileo Galilei International Airport in Pisa, though Guglielmo Marconi Airport in Bologna is also well connected. While planning your trip, don’t forget to check out the Siena accommodations deals on Booking.com!

compared to FLorence, Siena makes for a distant second (or actually third)
They say it is the difference between Renaissance and Middle Ages between the two cities - and this couldn`t be more true. Dark narrow ally-ways, brick .... the nicest vistas of the two are when you are out in the countryside and look back at it, perched on a hill

Beautiful town. We were only there for 2 nights. I could be stayed for longer but we had other travel plans. Many great restaurants and cafes. We did not see everything that we wanted to. I wished we would have made a reservation at one of the cool underground wine cellars.

This was a great location for visiting Siena and the local region. Although on a bus route the buses aren’t very frequent so it is certainly easier with a car. Parking available at the property. Good restaurant next door - but sadly not at all good for vegetarians!
The monastery on top of the hill is a must - we had a drink up there in the bar - but the food in the restaurant looked great too and was reasonably priced.
A great base for visiting Tuscany.

Beautiful city with interesting sights, but they have to do a lot more if they want to accommodate this number of tourists (especially to create or control the taxi service which is absolutely unprofessional and unreliable).
The room was pretty big and cozy. The hosts were nice and personal. The breakfast was the best one I've had out of my 5 hotels in Italy. It was not a buffet but you can choose if you want sweet or savoury plate. The savoury plate was fresh bread and meats and cheeses. Its a much better experience than a cheap buffet. The hosts also accommodated me with my wishes of showing me things to do around the area. They also helped me figuring out the complicated bus lines of Siena.
Everything. After our minor car accident making us late for the garage and having to park far, the staff promptly helped with our parking situation and upgraded our room with the best view in the city! The room is large with all the amenities. The breakfast is plentiful and catering to our sugar-free need. We even got a nice bottle of wine as a gift. This is the best hotel in our entire trip in Italy. The hotel itself and the service is top-notched!
The location was perfect for us since we were able to park just outside the ZTL and walk with our luggage to the hotel. It was a medium-length walk, but easily doable for those with moderate fitness and ability. It's right next to the Palazzo Pubblico and some really great restaurants. I would happily stay there again if I return to Siena. (note that the property may be unsuitable for those who have trouble with stairs).
The entire place is exceptionally cozy, we immediately felt like we're home. Our room was nicely decorated and very clean, and what's more, before our arrival someone turned on the heating, so it was really nice and warm - something you don't find too often in Italy. The view from our window was astonishing. The host, Piero, is a genuinely nice and polite person.
We hope to come visit Siena and Casacenti again.
The hotel is very beautiful and cute. It has a very stylish design and very nice yard with lemon trees. The owner was very helpful and gave us the information about the nearest laundry where we cleaned our clothes. The bed was super comfortable and it is very quiet there so we had a nice sleep. Highly recommend for nature lovers and those who are looking for sth authentic in Italy!
Wonderful place to stay! The owner met us as we pulled into the property and greeted us warmly. He gave us a fantastic overview of Siena and its history and provided us with tips on how to see the sights. The historic villa is comfortable and quiet, and the breakfast is superb. This is our favorite place to stay in Italy! Thank you, Giacomo, for treating us so well!
Location is excellent. I stayed in the Barberesco room and it was absolutely lovely! The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. I loved exploring Siena so much and was so comfortable at Casa Mavi, I extended my stay for one more day. I will definitely be back :)
I'm a travel agent and will be sharing your hotel with my clients.
Everything.
This was by far the best hotel we stayed in Italy.
It’s clean, pretty and the staff were super friendly and helpful.
They have plenty parking spots. The breakfast is very good.
As we were traveling by car, the location was perfect as it is located only 10 minutes away from the city center.
We had such an enjoyable experience at Hotel Certosa Di Maggiano. The staff was lovely, and treated us as if we were entering their home. The breakfast was easily the best we had during our 5 different stays in Italy. Thank you for the use of the tennis rackets, the pool, and the amazing restaurant.
We have stayed a few hotels for this Italy trip but This one in Siena was the best. Not only about the pice value but also the staff's kindness and cleaness of our rooms are perfect! The bathrooms are pretty and gorgeous! We would definitely stay here again when we have anotehr work in Sinea.
The DAGO farmhouse was amazing! The location was absolutely perfect for cycling the beautiful roads of Tuscany and visiting Siena. The property is gorgeous and the hosts were very hospitable and provided excellent recommendations for dining and sightseeing. One of our best stays in Italy!
The rooms were extremely clean! The hotel offered free still and sparkling water every day to take to the city which was super nice.
Staff was really helpful and the location of the hotel is quite close to the city center, which was one of the best cities we've ever been in Italy.
The hotel has a Terrace overlooking Tuscan valleys into the setting sun. They provide drinks for a couple of hours at sunset, or you can take your own with some food. Simply brilliant few hours.
Breakfast was nice - typical Italian spread.
Great location and Siena is wonderful.
The best stay we had during our 10 days and 3 hotels stay in Italy. The room was really clean and comfortable. The breakfast was great and the owners were friendly, helpful and wonderful. We will definitely visit again. The best place to stay in Siena hands down.
The property was well-located with views over the surrounding valleys and a short walk to everything in Siena. Room was comfortable, staff was helpful, breakfasts on the terrace were great! Do take advantage of the hotel’s parking facilities!
Great location with the luxury of a swimming pool after a long day sight seeing. Fabulous welcome from the owners and all staff extremely friendly that made our stay extra special. View from breakfast room and pool to Siena is stunning !!
the location is perfect, the staff is excellent and the breakfast is great. this is our 5th time staying and when we visit Siena and Tuscany the Hotel Italia will always be our choice.
