The house was super new and ridiculously clean! I've stayed in a lot of places and this place wins them all hands down. Everything u need is prepared and the house smells fantastic all the time. You can even charge your phone straight from the port in the bed head.

Normal japanese apartment building, you can live a bit like you were home. Just a few light rail stops from Utunomiya-eki with ~10min between trains, worked well as a base of operations for exploring Nikkou. I was fine taking the slow train (utsunomiya line) from ueno, pretty views on the way too. Staff spoke best english on my 3-week trip so far.

The house had many amenities available for use and instructions were clear and easy to follow. Staying in a tatami room was a unique experience for us too. The bonus was being able to use their record and CD player - my parents were able to enjoy listening to songs from their younger days. There was also a 7-11 that was a short drive away.

The apartment is located on the ground floor of a two-story condo. There is parking space right in front of the building if you need it. The apartment is quite big compared to Japanese standards with one traditional, tatami-style bedroom and another regular one with bunk beds, a main dining area with a kitchen, a spacious bathroom and separate toilet. The tatami room is gorgeous with a beautiful Japanese-style table and floor seats and quite comfortable mattresses. Everything was spotless clean, the kitchen is fully equipped, the bathroom has all the amenities you would find in a regular hotel. There's a washing machine and a dryer which you can use for a few hundred Yen on an honor system. The host, Akihito is extremely kind and helpful. He sent detailed instructions on how to find the apartment, and was greeting us in person when we got there. You can pay by credit card, which is a huge convenience. He also surprised us with a handmade gift, a fridge magnet he made himself. We appreciate is very much, thank you, Akihito! It's about a 15 minute walk from Shimo-Imaichi station and according to Google Maps about the same distance from JR Imaichi station. A very quiet neighborhood, we literally haven't seen anyone around. There is a rather large 7 Eleven about 3-5 mins walk away, and Akihito also provided us with a detailed map of the nearby restaurants. All in all this was one of the best places we had the pleasure to stay while in Japan. I would highly recommend you stay here if you visit beautiful Nikko.
