The reception team are friendly and there are plenty of restaurants and facilities right at your doorstep for a comfortable stay. We stayed one night as a family with two young children before an international flight and wouldn’t hesitate to stay again.

Whitsunday Sands Resort is uniquely located on its own private peninsula, by the turquoise waters of the Great Barrier Reef. It offers all guests private access to 2 separate, magnificent beaches. On the eastern side of the resort is Horseshoe Bay, rated as one of the best beaches in Australia, while on the western side is the picturesque Greys Bay. You can enjoy watching the sunrise and sunset over the water on the main land, from the resort. An outstanding place to stay sandwiched between two attractive beaches on the outskirts of Bowen. Our upstairs unit was spacious and clean and had fabulous views from the valcony out over the well kept grounds to the ocean. We self catered, but the motel has a bar and there is a restaurant down by one of the beaches which is open on certain days of the week. I understand there is also a Thai restaurant nearby which opens at weekends. We enjoyed the circular walk up to the radar station lookout and clambering over the rocks to a couple more secuded coves. There is also a swimming pool sensibly situated to the side of the building we were in. Reception was friendly and efficient, and we appreciated the on site laundry.

I highly recommend this spot if you’re looking for a quiet, country-style retreat!

Staff were best ever encountered anywhere. Couldn't do enough to help us out with visiting grandchildren. Advised us of local sites to visit. We stayed 4 nights. Absolutely fantastic. THE PLACE TO STAY!
