Lovely place about a 10-15 minute walk from the train station. We were there on 2 cold days in March but our room was warm with a heater and electric blankets. Very comfortable beds and an onsen in the room. We had a beautiful view out our window and in nice weather it would be lovely to sit outside but not on this visit. You eat downstairs in a pleasant dining room. The 2 dinners were fabulous and well prepared but we couldn't eat much of the breakfast (it was all Japanese), other guests loved it. But on the second day the cooks made us a delicious breakfast that kept us going all day. The owner is very helpful, he cares a lot about his guests, he's still working on the place and it will be really nice when it's done.

The experience from check in to check out was amazing staff is speaking English which is a huge plus if you have any questions. Room was huge with big balcony which had an amazing view of Beppu. I did book private onsen which was amazing experience. They did think of all the small details.

Kannawaen is an entirely non-smoking accommodation that features a garden, terrace and bar in Beppu. 100 metres from Hells of Beppu, the property is also 500 metres away from Jigokumushikobo Kannawa. Lovely location. In room onsen was so awesome to have. Views from the balcony were exceptional, mountains, the city and the sea. The food was absolutely gourmet level and was a highlight for us. The staff were warm, friendly and helpful.

There is also free afternoon tea, with decent snacks and drinks daily.
