I went just as the off season begun and this was a perfect time for me. The Theo Star Beach Hotel is a great place to stay, close to everything though far enough away for a quiet relaxing stay. The old town of Malia is a must and the food in restaurants like Milos, Avli and Zorbas is not only great value but some of the best food I had whilst island hopping from Crete to Rhodes to Kos.JohnUnited Kingdom - 10Scored 10

Its quite party place, but had a hotel a bit outside the city, so was very good! I would not recommend to plan Malia city as family holidays, but in our case (as we were staying a bit outside - Olympus Studious) that was great with small kid as well. Malia is the perfect trip for anyone. You can get anything you want, from going out at the clubs to a peaceful relaxing vacation with your family. Next to this you can rent transportation on every corner on the street, have various dining possibilities (Mexican streetfood, Italian, Greek...). The location was a ten minute walk away from the main street which was ideal as it was away from the noise but close enough to access. The hotel comes with access to a pool that’s two minutes away & it’s very clean and lovely. Wifi & aircon were also included which was really great as previously I’ve stayed in Malia & the hotels have charged for this.

It is a 15 minute drive from the Malia archaeological site (stunning— we preferred it to Knossos) and it was 50 minutes to Knossos, in our opinion preferable to the shorter drive from Heraklion.

The villa is much larger than the rooms in Crete and has its own parking spot, so was extremely easy to move with a child. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful, especially Athina who was our main contact person and facilitated everything. The food is also delicious.
