Olbia is all about the sea, and what a glorious turquoise sea it is. As the gateway to Sardinia’s stunning Emerald Coast, this down-to-earth town is often overlooked in favour of the more glamorous resorts. However, it does have attractions of its own.
The simple Basilica of San Simplicio dates to the 11th century and the Church of St Paul the Apostle is also medieval. The National Archaeology Museum houses Roman ships, as well as prehistoric artefacts from the surrounding area.
Sardinia has a wealth of prehistoric structures and one of these – the Tomba dei Giganti Su Monte‘e S’Abe – is near Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport and medieval Pedres Castle. Across the bay is Sa Testa Sacred Well, dating to at least 1200 BC.
Along the coast in Pittulongu are the real attractions – fantastic, unspoilt beaches from where you can see rocky Tavolara Island, a popular diving site. In summer, boats sail there from Isola Bianca Harbour, the arrival point of ferries from the Italian mainland. The harbour’s fishing boats are responsible for the fantastic mussels in Olbia’s seafood restaurants, some of which are amid bars and shops on Corso Umberto – the locals’ favourite passeggiata spot.
The Olbia accommodation on Booking.com includes luxury spa hotels, apartments near the beach and cheap B&Bs.

Olbia is a practical town to stay in because you can travel by bus or car to Sardinia’s top attractions. There is a lot of action on the Corso Umberto and surroundings but overall I found only a few good places to eat. The airport is close and easy to reach via public transportation. All in all I would recommend it as a place where you spend the night but you plan your day to day visiting the amazing beaches and hikes.

If you are travelling around northern Sardinia then I would recommend a visit to Alghero rather than Olbia.
There are very few places of interest in Olbia and the traffic network is very hard to negotiate with confusing signage in many parts.

A trip to Olbia felt like visiting the 'real' Italy.
A trip to Olbia felt like visiting the 'real' Italy. Tourists per se are not specially catered for, although there are tours of La Maddalena from Palau, dolphin spotting etc.
But what you do get is a warm welcome from local people.
Lively bars, but not thumping clubs.
- and the food is amazing, with a particular focus on local delicacies as well as fresh fish and seafood.
Easy to get to local beaches (Bados and Pittulongu) which have beach bars. plenty of loungers and parasols to hire for the day. Turquoise waters, sandy beaches.

Nice Centro and waterfront.
Nice Centro and waterfront. Seemed authentic and residential city. Only stayed one evening, but seemed some good restaurants and pleasant to walk around. Although pleasant, was better for transit spot than base and we were glad that we had stayed in another location for additional travel in the area. NOTE: taxis are difficult to come by and did not answer phone on a Monday morning although we were informed they would by a driver. Be sure to schedule ahead if needed.
the staff is cordial, nice and competent! they are available to meet the needs of the customer. they really helped us a lot to find the venue and suggestions about tours and beaches
the parking just behind the hotel, free of charge !
the location is super central !
the room was equipped with all amenities (frigo as well) and furnished with a nice taste!
nice breakfast as well, from 7 in the morning!
The venue doesn’t have beaches but they lent us a breach umbrella throughout all the stay!
This was a very convenient stay for us in preparation for our flight out of Olbia. The location was perfect, an easy walk to the city center, shops and restaurants and a quick drive drive to the airport. The arrival and check-in process was easy and we were so thankful to be able to check in a little early.
Our room was exactly what we needed, looked brand new, and was very clean. We had an early check-out but that was also no problem as the cafe downstairs opens very early.
The beach access is great. Such a comfortable hotel-feels like home. Very traditional charming look! The restaurant is great-very nice serving staff, food is traditional Sardinian cuisine. The breakfast has very good variety. The hotel is spotless and well taken care of. My daughter enjoyed the pool as well as going to the beach. Close to a small grocery store and the bus to Olbia. Great smelling soap in the room! Very happy with our stay would stay again.
The breakfast was excellent, with a good choice of food and quantity. Still covid-conscious. Pool was almost always quiet. Nearest beach was a 5-minute walk away, with many others within walking distance. A bus stop outside the hotel took you into Olbia in 15 minutes for €1.50, with regular service. Hotel was spotless and nicely decorated with artworks and furniture. The gardens were immaculate and encouraged wildlife.
This hotel has lovely charm and is perfect if you want a nice base to explore the island. the staff were lovely, and the little welcoming touches were great, beach bag and towels, water in the room, room service exceptional. it’s a little out of the town but that’s great if you want a quiet and peaceful place to stay. breakfast has great options and the view from the pool is lovely. free parking big bonus for us.
Very friendly & helpful staff, nothing was too much trouble for them. Pool was great. Standard of Accommodation was really high. Great location as really close to good beaches and also just outside the hustle & bustle of Olbia. I hope that as the season goes on and the hotel gets busier & busier that they can maintain this level of personal service.
Great location if you arrive or depart from Olbia airport.
Unmatched ambiance, very nice and tidy! Wonderful pool-view from terrace. Very quiet place, close to all beaches and town at the same time. Fully furnished flat with living kitchen, bedroom and bathroom.
Great apartment in a nice area with everything you need.
Highly recommended!
The space was quirky, fun, and very comfortable for our short stay in Olbia. Stefano was a fabulous host and gave us recommendations for restaurants and beaches in the area. He provided clear communication and made our stay great! We also enjoyed the espresso at breakfast, and the snacks/food available to us.
Such an awesome amazing apartment with everything equipped, better than a 4 star hotel I ever lived, just comfortable like my home! And the owner is also an extremely nice person, provided us lots of additional help. The accommodation is more delightful than the beach, haha.
Great location, close to the beach 🏖 and local restaurants. The water 💦 is clean, great beach.
This hotel has a cozy feel. This place has a green garden where you can have free time or eat. The room was clean and we had everything you need it. Nice breakfast ☕️.
The place was amazing. I liked it a lot, because you always can take a little walk through and see the "real" Olbia/Sardinia. There are a lot of fancy buildings and you can see how the local people nowadays live. Bus stop to get EVERYWHERE is 1 km away.
Emilio provided more personalized service than any 5 star hotel, pre arrival he organized our car rental, he was fantastic during our stay and even drove us to our car rental, we are coming back on our way home from Sardinia for sure.
The location was perfect, very quite and green area and not too far from Olbia city. By car you can reach most of the famous beaches (Golfo degli Aranci, Costa Smeralda and Porto San Paolo in front of Tavolara island).
Parking in front of the door, all the equipment/materials as you have at home, excelent location to visit the best beaches of Sardinia, and finding a superhost! Thank you very much for providing us such pleasant stay!
It was a really clean and beautiful modern house. Everything you’ll need is there and you walk to the city center of Olbia in just two minutes. Also the beautiful beaches of Costa Smeralda are easy to reach by car.
We liked the location, near to city centre ( 5-10 min by car ), rooms were basic, but clean. Good to visit near by beaches and Olbia town. Staff is polite and helpful. It is a good choice when passing thru Olbia.
staff, breakfast at the hotel & watching the sunset from the little trattoria across the road from the hotel - unbelievable, with local Sardinians & their families - got a real sense of community.
- Amazing view with a really nice pool
- Bus stop just in front of the hotel so really practical to go to town
- quiet area and nice property
- in between olbia city and the areas with the beaches
The general area is nice, close to the beach, close enough but not too close to the town, and not far from Olbia's airport.
It is also quiet and has a very nice beach restaurant.
