Set against the spectacular backdrop of the Alps, Innsbruck is not only a world-class European ski resort, it’s also the former seat of Maximilian
I’s Holy Roman Empire.
This imperial legacy has left its mark, most notably in the Old Town where beautiful Rococo buildings sit alongside pastel facades and typically Tyrolean, flower-adorned windows. The visitable Hofburg imperial court owes its modern appearance to 18th-century Empress Maria Theresia.
The Hofkirche contains a memorial tomb for Maximilian I, and his life is depicted in frescoes on the Goldenes Dachl (Golden Roof) nearby, named after the gleaming, copper tiles lining its entrance.
Flying into Innsbruck Airport, it’s easy to see why the city was so highly regarded. Practically every street ends with a view of the Alps, lush in summer, snowy white in winter. Nestled on a slope is Schloss Ambras, ex-residence of Archduke Ferdinand II, while the surroundings provide summer mountaineering, hiking and golf.
In winter of course it’s all about the fantastic Innsbruck skiing and snowboarding. Ski areas include Nordkette mountain, accessed by cable car and chairlifts near the town’s hotels and B&Bs on Booking.com. Its varied pistes means that several international competitions are held here, as well as the Bergiselschanze ski jump contest. The après-ski is laidback and centred around chalet-style bars and traditional restaurants.
Innsbruck is stunning! It's much smaller than Vienna and smaller than Salzburg, but bigger than some of the villages we visited. Even so, it was one of our favorite stops because of the gorgeous historic district, the river, the history, the people, and the beautiful mountain surroundings. If you've never been, you need to go!

Highly recommend getting out into nature as much as possible...
Highly recommend getting out into nature as much as possible, there are some amazing hikes in the area for all skill-levels. The surrounding wilderness is genuinely breath-taking. I recommend the Natterer-see trail for anyone with a basic fitness level. The attached photos are from our hike. One bit of general advice for anyone planning to visit; most supermarkets close around 7pm so bring food with you if you're planning on arriving late.

Innsbruck is beautiful and a must see!
Innsbruck is beautiful and a must see! Ideal to walk around as it's not too big and there are many beautiful things to see and do.
So close to the mountains so skiing or hiking is a must.
Great places to eat as a variety of choice-great little pizza place called Farina which as an Italian, I can highly rate!
There is also Skifskeller which is fantastic for local cuisine! Great food and great atmosphere!
I would highly recommend the Innsbruck card, it was absolutely fantastic and saved us SO much money as so much is included.
Would definitely return to Innsbruck! :)

Innsbruck has a wonderful location: a charming, not so large city in the midst of spectacular mountains. The Hofburg palace is interesting, is nicely located in the midst of the city and adjacent to a wonderful imperial garden with beautiful old trees. The other main palace, Ambras, is also interesting. It is located outside the city, well reachable by public transportation and surrounded by a great, hilly garden. The picture galeries and ancient furnitures of these palaces do not reach the quality of the top European castles, but are historically interesting.
Public transportation is excellent. The city is very lively, quite touristy, but also casual, a good mix of local people and visitors. Nice cafes along the river and the main streets in the city center. We ejoyed the food of Il Convento and the Trattoria de due Sicilie. Reservations necessary!

Innsbruck is a great city to spend time in.
Innsbruck is a great city to spend time in. It has a huge variety of restaurants, and great shopping if that's what you are in to.
Public transport is excellent, and you can base yourself in the city and buy a pass that is valid for a number of city sites, the public buses, and 13 ski resorts which can be easily reached by bus.
There is a funicular railway up to Nordketter, Innsbruck's own ski area.
There is a very easy student/university vibe to the city at night: highly recommended
Fantastic breakfast and a top spot in Innsbruck! Great value for money: I really enjoyed my night in Hotel Schwarzer Adler. I used to live in Innsbruck – this is a fantastic location to stay. You can reach basically everything by foot, the Old Town isn't far and there are plenty of bars and restaurants close by. The hotel room was very clean, the bed was very comfortable and the staff was very friendly. I loved the interior of the hotel. Plus: they even have a roof terrace!
Once you arrive at this hotel, you will see little bit out-date lobby area. And your expectation might go down little bit. But once you are welcomed by super friendly staffs and walked in your room, you will have a big smile on your face for sure. The room where we stayed were fully renovated with sparkle clean furniture and bathroom. Old town is less than 10mins away on foot. We were super happy and will probably choose this hotel again when we visit Innsbruck.
It was a short 20 minutes from the airport on the F bus. A great location, only a 10/15 walk away from old town and just across the way from the train station.
We arrived early so we thought we'd drop our bags off but they let us check in early which was great.
The hotel was clean, fresh and furnished fantastically.
If you like cocktails then the bar on the 13th floor was the place to be. The view was beautiful and the mojito was the best I've ever had!
Great location, on a hill with a nice view over Innsbruck. 10 min walk from the tram station - 20 min ride to old town every half an hour.
Large free parking available.
We enjoyed the sauna - free towels and bathrobes provided.
Good variety for the breakfast.
Although we booked for a room without balcony (cheapest option) we got a free upgrade to a room with balcony, which had a great view.
The hotel is central to the old town. It is close to sightseeing, shopping, and restaurants. The property itself is clean but has that old school charm. The breakfast is awesome with so much variety. The beds are so comfortable and the duvets are warm. The upper sauna area is a plus. I nice sauna after a long day of shopping is great. The restaurant is great too, food top quality.
Location is excellent, right next door to the Main Train Station and easy walking distance to the old town. The roof top bar has amazing views of the alps and Innsbruck. This is also where breakfast is and is a highlight of this property. The staff were very helpful, and the rooms were clean and serviced every day. Good value for money when travelling as a family.
We had a super trip here - the hotel is centrally located in the old town. We were met by friendly staff and shown to a very lovely room which was well furnished and spacious. As we were only in Innsbruck for one night we ate at the hotel - again very nice. Breakfast the next day was good - many options and extremely friendly staff. I would certainly return.
A perfect hotel if you are traveling by train and using public transport in and around Innsbruck. The immediate proximity to the old town of Innsbruck and many restaurants, pubs and shops is also ideal. The hotel is functional and basically well equipped, the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Always a good choice for a stay in Innsbruck.
Very warm and gave a beautiful Austrian flavor. Was a 5 minute walk from the bahnhof and 10 mins to the Alstadt. We decided to have dinner in the hotel rather than return out into the cold (22F) and wind, and we were welcomed with a fabulous dinner, wine and an exceptional dessert. The staff went out of their way to make the evening.
The location was amazing. The staff were amazing and helpful. Beautiful place to relax or go on an adventure. The staff at reception organised a welcome to Innsbruck pass for me which i got a free bus pass to check out the old town. The ski Lodge was only 3 mins by bus just outside the hotel. The room was clean and comfy.
Located on a lively street within old town; layout of the hotel room was ingenious; decor was sophisticated; stocked amenities; full-sized shower; comfortable bed; sitting chairs with a table in the room; hip bar on the 6th floor (our room was on the 5th); Starbucks across the street for east morning coffee.
"Walkable" distance from the train station and to the Old Town. My room was perfect for a relaxing time "up in the sky". And the view was heavenly. I picked Innsbruck for a relaxing time and this hotel delivers. Appreciated the tea kettle and the lovely scent of the liquid soap
Close to the central train station of Innsbruck, a little bit far from the old town, but not too far. Like 20 minutes walking distance. Nice modern hotel with good mountain views from all rooms.
Nice and helpful staff at checkin desk.
Very clean, large room with a great size balcony.
Great connection to Innsbruck city centre by tram (20min), tram stop only 2 min away from the hotel.
