Set against the spectacular backdrop of the Alps, Innsbruck is not only a world-class European ski resort, it’s also the former seat of Maximilian
I’s Holy Roman Empire.
This imperial legacy has left its mark, most notably in the Old Town where beautiful Rococo buildings sit alongside pastel facades and typically Tyrolean, flower-adorned windows. The visitable Hofburg imperial court owes its modern appearance to 18th-century Empress Maria Theresia.
The Hofkirche contains a memorial tomb for Maximilian I, and his life is depicted in frescoes on the Goldenes Dachl (Golden Roof) nearby, named after the gleaming, copper tiles lining its entrance.
Flying into Innsbruck Airport, it’s easy to see why the city was so highly regarded. Practically every street ends with a view of the Alps, lush in summer, snowy white in winter. Nestled on a slope is Schloss Ambras, ex-residence of Archduke Ferdinand II, while the surroundings provide summer mountaineering, hiking and golf.
In winter of course it’s all about the fantastic Innsbruck skiing and snowboarding. Ski areas include Nordkette mountain, accessed by cable car and chairlifts near the town’s hotels and B&Bs on Booking.com. Its varied pistes means that several international competitions are held here, as well as the Bergiselschanze ski jump contest. The après-ski is laidback and centred around chalet-style bars and traditional restaurants.

Innsbruck is stunning!
Innsbruck is stunning! It's much smaller than Vienna and smaller than Salzburg, but bigger than some of the villages we visited. Even so, it was one of our favorite stops because of the gorgeous historic district, the river, the history, the people, and the beautiful mountain surroundings. If you've never been, you need to go!

Highly recommend getting out into nature as much as possible...
Highly recommend getting out into nature as much as possible, there are some amazing hikes in the area for all skill-levels. The surrounding wilderness is genuinely breath-taking. I recommend the Natterer-see trail for anyone with a basic fitness level. The attached photos are from our hike. One bit of general advice for anyone planning to visit; most supermarkets close around 7pm so bring food with you if you're planning on arriving late.

Innsbruck is beautiful and a must see!
Innsbruck is beautiful and a must see! Ideal to walk around as it's not too big and there are many beautiful things to see and do.
So close to the mountains so skiing or hiking is a must.
Great places to eat as a variety of choice-great little pizza place called Farina which as an Italian, I can highly rate!
There is also Skifskeller which is fantastic for local cuisine! Great food and great atmosphere!
I would highly recommend the Innsbruck card, it was absolutely fantastic and saved us SO much money as so much is included.
Would definitely return to Innsbruck! :)

Innsbruck has a wonderful location: a charming, not so large...
Innsbruck has a wonderful location: a charming, not so large city in the midst of spectacular mountains. The Hofburg palace is interesting, is nicely located in the midst of the city and adjacent to a wonderful imperial garden with beautiful old trees. The other main palace, Ambras, is also interesting. It is located outside the city, well reachable by public transportation and surrounded by a great, hilly garden. The picture galeries and ancient furnitures of these palaces do not reach the quality of the top European castles, but are historically interesting.
Public transportation is excellent. The city is very lively, quite touristy, but also casual, a good mix of local people and visitors. Nice cafes along the river and the main streets in the city center. We ejoyed the food of Il Convento and the Trattoria de due Sicilie. Reservations necessary!
We loved this boutique hotel with a unique and exciting aesthetic to every space. We were greeted with a glass of champagne and treated with little extras throughout our stay (water, fruit, champagne, chocolates). The elevator was large for European standards making it easy for our disabled pet. Our room was lovely and large with a private, large balcony. Parking can be pre-arranged for a much reduced rate. It is a short 5-10 minute walk to Innsbruck Old Town.
It was a short 20 minutes from the airport on the F bus. A great location, only a 10/15 walk away from old town and just across the way from the train station.
We arrived early so we thought we'd drop our bags off but they let us check in early which was great.
The hotel was clean, fresh and furnished fantastically.
If you like cocktails then the bar on the 13th floor was the place to be. The view was beautiful and the mojito was the best I've ever had!
Very nice hotel located a 3 minute walk from the Innsbruck old town. And about 10 minutes from the train station. Friendly and helpful staff, big rooms - I recommend the “apartment” style, with a living area, huge size, for the price of a small room in many other Innsbruck hotels. Also very tasty breakfast with a full choice available even if you arrive late. The hotel might look old from the outside, but rooms are modern.
Great location, on a hill with a nice view over Innsbruck. 10 min walk from the tram station - 20 min ride to old town every half an hour.
Large free parking available.
We enjoyed the sauna - free towels and bathrobes provided.
Good variety for the breakfast.
Although we booked for a room without balcony (cheapest option) we got a free upgrade to a room with balcony, which had a great view.
Christine, the owner/manager, is super efficient and client-oriented; she made sure that our special requests were immediately attended to. Her recommended list of restaurants is on target! The hotel location is a pleasant 6-7 minutes walk to the Old Town, as well as to the Congress Station, where one can take the Innsbrucker Nordkettenbahnen to see the Top of Innsbruck.
Although the hotel/room is dated, we were still comfortable. The room was clean. Fresh towels every day. Good breakfast; great variety; comfortable breakfast room. The best is the location. Can't beat this hotel for the location! Walking distance to everything: train station, old town, funicular and cable 🚠 cars, ski jump, ECT.
The location was phenomenal. Right in the heart of old town. The Christmas markets were located all around this Hotel and all one had to do was step outside the Hotel lobby!
Also, their breakfast was the best we had enjoyed during our 10 day vacation!! Lots of choices and the bread and croissants were so fresh every morning!
We never met our host, but the communication was good. The location is excellent (within walking distance) from the Old Town Centre, as well as the Lowenhaus station for the Nordkette cable car. The apartments is very clean and more than sufficient for a great stay in Innsbruck. Innsbruck is a delightful city to visit.
Great location in the old town, the hotel is walkable from the train station in 15mins (but buses also available). We visited in December so enjoyed proximity to the Christmas market as well. Staff are lovely, rooms are spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was great, with plenty of choice. would happily stay here again!
The location of this hotel is great. It is near the Old town where most of the attractions are located. It is also near the Congress Building where you can take the bus to Swarovski or the funicular and cable to go to the top of Innsbruck. There are eateries and several mini shops where you can get drinks or snacks.
The hotel is very nice. The room was quite small, expected a bit bigger compare the price. The location was great, few minutes from the city center and old town, restaurants, bars. The breakfast was amazing, a huge choice. It was a bit noisy from outside, because it is on the busy street, but nothing too bad.
The hotel is a new and well designed structure just off Innsbruck city centre, which can be reached with a 15 minutes walk. It is very accessible by car though. We had a small apartment, with a good dimension and comfy services.
The hotel was in a good location just over the bridge from the old town. The breakfast choices were excellent with a variety of options. The room was spacious
and comfortable.
Easy distance from Innsbruck airport and the train station. Being next to the bridge, in the old town and Ravi g the mountains was a lovely start to our ski holiday in Austria.
Right in the old town of Innsbruck.
Superb hotel design with attention to details.
Splendid bar/breakfast area with a view.
Above all - very helpful staff.
