Waterford surprised us.
Waterford surprised us. The museums are great, we enjoyed especially the Bishop's palace. All the people we interacted with were very nice, kind and helpful. The Waterford people and city council have done a great job in this last 10 years. We will go again

I liked the fact that staff changed me to another room when I complained about the noise of the boiler. However the room we stayed in was freezing and this was February and it was cold.
The staff need to be a bit flexible about breakfast times. The receptionist would not accept that we would come down between 9.30 and 10am or even at 10 minutes to 10am. She said that we had to give her an exact time to book the table! We said 10.am, which she accepted but when we got to breakfast the tables were cleared and staff said that we could have a cooked breakfast only. We stood our ground given the night we had and we did get the breakfast we would have got had she allowed us to come down at 9.45am. We got a strong impression was that it was all about what was convenient for the staff as opposed to looking after the customer. Such a pity.

I moved to Dublin earlier this year.
I moved to Dublin earlier this year. I've been to most Irish cities at this point. I decided to get out of Dublin for the night and came to Waterford on fairly short notice.
Perhaps it was the (rare) nice weather, but Waterford is now one of my favorite cities in Ireland and was the perfect place *for me* to spend ~24 hours. Note that I usually race around from the moment of arrival to the moment of leaving, so others might enjoy all that Waterford has to offer - King of The Vikings VR experience, the Time Museum, the Irish Wake museum, some silly crystal place (albeit with an impressive company store,) Constitution Square, the Medieval Museum, Bishops Palace Museum, the Silver Museum, the river bank, building murals, etc. - for two or three days.
By the way, several of those museums can be seen for one ~15-euro pass, easily bought online the day of arrival (such as I did!) There might be even cheaper options; check before you go! I'm not a museum person, but even I enjoyed everything above. https://visitwaterford.com/vw_news/waterford-treasures-launches-freedom-of-waterford-tour/
I stayed at the Waterford Marina hotel which offered a great view of the river, albeit for 160 USD for my one night there. (Did I mention I decided to go with almost no notice? This was what was available!)

Drizzle rain and rain can happen, be prepared, it is Ireland. Lots of Touristy things to do if you like doing those things. Cost of regular clothing is inexpensive and easily obtained. The pints at The Exchange were 4.60 euro, a very good price. Tipping is not expected and does not show up on tap readers or bills. There is construction throughout Ireland however if the country side is your calling, it is not far away and is very, very enchanting.

Waterford City has a harbour front which is lined with parking and the highest rated hotels in the area (Granvilles, The Tower Hotel etc.) which all provide nice places to eat and drink. There are a number of museums in the area, one of the newest being the Wake Museum which is quirky as it's all about how the Irish celebrate death and features costumed staff so is well worth a visit.

Don’t be in a hurry to leave Waterford!
Don’t be in a hurry to leave Waterford! There are so many wonderful places and exhibits to enjoy, from the museum to Waterford glass, to the Viking trail…. and the Tower Hotel is the perfectly placed base for all these and more… and I mustn’t forget to mention the friendly local people too. Enjoy!
We were extremely satisfied with the hotel and the wonderful staff. The reception from the staff at the front desk was very pleasent and very helpful on information for the area . The staff from the restaurant was above helpful and the cleaning staff was very good and the room and rest of hotel was sparkling clean. We already have told friends to come to your hotel. The staff in the breakfast were a pleasure to be with. We felt very comfortable
Thank you.
The location is key with this property - we were able to walk to all the sites we were interested in seeing, including the Waterford Crystal Factory (which is actually an exceptional tour). We ate unbelievably great food in this city and visited wonderful pubs. The bar in this hotel is fabulous - we loved the bar tenders and discovered their signature drink . . . a whiskey sour. Don't pass it up!
The hotel itself is beautiful, room was fantastic. The bath and shower were fab super strong water pressure it was fab, and plenty of towels and soap's ect. Also called reception for a couple of things (glasses, plates) and they would come with them immediately service there was great. And the location was perfect. 5 minutes walk from the bus stop, cinema, city centre.
the hotel (motel) has all you need, a comfy bed, working bathroom, it’s clean and quiet.
window in the room wasn’t closing, we were freezing cold I went to the reception and they sent me someone to fix it in the middle of the night, I really appreciated it.
- location is perfect, all amenities around, restaurants and 20 mins walk to city centre
Menu wasn't great and lunch was same as dinner but you could not complain about quality of food nor the portions. Thought the staff were very helpful and super friendly. Breakfast was eat as much as you want and we'll worth the price. All in all marina hotel was great value and we would definitely go back.
Beautiful hotel and the location is lovely, right on the water. Easy walk to the Viking Triangle and shops. Rooms were very comfortable and impeccably clean. The staff were friendly and helpful. Also we ate dinner in the restaurant and the food was delicious.
The hotel was lovely, staff were super friendly and helpful. Location was good, a little ways outside the city centre but close to the bus stop into town. The hotel breakfast was nice and carvery at the hotel was incredible.
Spacious four bed three bathroom house in grounds of exclusive golf hotel. Perfect secluded setting, but within easy drive into Waterford city centre. Great kitchen with full facilities in utility room.
Centrally located, City Centre proximity, Lovely clean hotel with an old world feel, nice food, fantastic whiskey selection in the bar, interesting take on the breakfast and helpful friendly staff.
The location was excellent. The staff at the Hotel reception were courteous and helpful. The chalet probably needed updating in some areas eg TV sound system.
