Oxford Street

Stretching out for a mile and a half, you can pretty much buy anything under the sun on Europe’s busiest shopping street. Big British shopping institutions like Primark, John Lewis and Selfridges stock most of it, while the smaller shops toward Tottenham Court Road can still turn up the odd gem if you keep your eyes peeled.

    The whole world is here.

The whole world is here. I love the busy nature of this street. If you are the type that travel with family, please make a budget first. After my first day with my family, many years when the children were young, I learnt through the hard way. Unlimited spending affected my budget. please don't carry the family to this street without budget.

Oxford Street doesn't have a great reputation among natives of London. However, in the 1980s I would go there to shop at Selfridges for clothes. That's a classy department store and worth a visit.

    Don't bother!

Don't bother! Over rated tourist trap full of brands you can find on your high street , tat shops and sweet emporia. A real drop in standards and choice from what the old shopping area used to be.

Some buildings are very nice in this buildings and are really good great historical value, some are hardly maintained or never maintained. The good thing is that there is variety of shops in this street for all budgets . They down side is it doesn’t feel safe, the road is relatively narrow ( British standard) and it’s over packed with tourists and obviously lots of mugging going on, I’ve heard of one when I was there for two hours only.

We had a very pleasant stay at Goodenough, as we got a beautiful room facing the park. Everything was super clean, the structure is nicely restored keeping the original Georgian features. Location is perfect, 10 mins bus ride to Oxford Street, the area is extremely peaceful as the street ends at the hotel, so the traffic is reduced. The breakfast at the university hall was extremely special, in a good old English student atmosphere. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Will come again.

Briliant location. Very good value for money we paid. I would certainly recomend this for everyone looking for few days accomodation not far away from London city center. Very well reached by public transport. Parks close by offering plenty of space for rest and chill or walks and other activities. Convenient for shoppers = Oxford street not far away. I would stay here again.
